Donald was born to Odom Lonnie and Elsie Mae (Eddy) Holly. On June 29, 1942, he married Thelma Ozelle Alexander in Marietta, Okla. He served in the Army Air Corp in World War II, in the Pacific Theatre. Don worked for the Pilot Point School District many years as a bus mechanic and bus driver. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Pilot Point. Mr. Holly was survived by his wife, Ozelle Holly; three children, Donnie Sue Wood and husband, Ronald of Callisburg, Gary Frank Holly and wife, Lou of Plano and Pamela Diane Maier and husband, Larry of Pilot Point; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lonnie Holly, Gerald "Bud" Holly, Willard Holly and Turner Popejoy; and sister, Mariana Sproles. Funeral services were at Calvary Baptist Church in Pilot Point, with burial in New Hope Cemetery in Cooke County, Texas.
