Her memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, December 21, at Elmwood West United Methodist Church, 1302 S. Pioneer. Viewing and visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South. A private family graveside will be held in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Reita was born in Idalou, Texas, on January 12, 1933, to Thomas and Florine Cooper. She graduated from Colorado City High School in 1952 and married Richard Hart in Colorado City on February 8, 1953. She worked at Timex for several years before becoming a full-time homemaker after the birth of her youngest daughter. Reita was a devout Christian and was a member of Elmwood West United Methodist Church for 40 years. She was a loyal and devoted wife, a loving and caring mother, and a proud grandmother. She loved to bake, sew, and crochet. She was always giving hugs to brighten someone's day, even to strangers. Everything she did came from the heart. She will be greatly missed by many.
Survivors include: her husband of 54 years, Richard Hart of Abilene; four daughters, Reba Kirkland of Abilene, Retha Hart of Abilene, Ramona Bohnet and husband, Don of San Antonio, and René Burdick and husband, Ian of Frisco; one brother, Guinn Cooper and wife, Callie of Abilene; one sister, Jo Williams of Texas City; eight grandchildren, Brittany, Jason, Alex, Kelsey, Kaci, Kadi, Jeremy and Dessa; and six great-grandchildren.
Her parents, one brother, Wilton Cooper and one sister, Nan Lampson preceded her in death.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request memorial donations be made to Sears Methodist Hospice, 3233 S. Willis, Abilene, Texas 79605.
