Mrs. Carolyn Harris Durham, aged 90, of Plains and Albany, Georgia, died January 4, 2019 at Magnolia Manor Nursing Facility in Americus. She was born December 12, 1928 in Quitman County, Georgia, the daughter of the late Ouida Lucile Murphy and Ernest Willie Harris. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Russell Durham.



Mrs. Durham joined the Plains Baptist Church at the age of eleven. She graduated from Plains High School in 1945 and attended Bessie Tift College, Forsyth, Ga, majoring in Commercial Science. She retired in 1990 from Darton College, Albany, after serving as Secretary to the President for 18 years. She and her husband owned and operated an antique business in Plains for 15 years. She was a member of the Council of Safety Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Americus and the John Sumner Chapter of the National Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century in Albany.



She is survived by her son John Russell Durham Jr., and daughter-in law Janet Candy Durham of Albany; daughter Susan Carole Durham, and son-in-law James Alan Knapp of Columbus, Ohio; and two granddaughters, Jennifer Marie Durham and Kelly Lynn Durham.



Funeral services are planned for 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 8, from the graveside at Friendship Cemetery, 2404 GA Highway 30 W, Americus. Rev. Brooks Partain will officiate.
