"Ruth Heleniak passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2013. The Rosary will be prayed at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 25, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, 6415 NE Antioch Rd., Gladstone, Mo., followed by mass at 12 p.m. The family will receive friends after Mass. Ruth was born July 24, 1940, to Stanley and Mary (Wagner) Bunek in Cudahy, Wis. She attended grade and high school, graduating from So Milwaukee HS in 1958. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jeff in 1985. Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Tom and son, John. She also leaves behind sister, Barbara (Jim) Slomski; brothers, Frank (Betty) and Bob (Sharon) Bunek; brothers-in- law, Con (Mary), Bob (Arline), and Dan (Olivia) Heleniak; along with many nieces and nephews. Ruth cherished family (known as Aunt Ruthless to nieces and nephews), friends, playing bridge, all KU sports (including tailgating before and after) and a little gambling. Her family would like to thank Drs. Reintjes, O'Conner, Ward, and Maturo, along with the staff at North Kansas City Hospital, New Mark Rehab Center, and Kindred Hospital. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Jeff Heleniak Scholarship Fund c/o Gladstone Rotary Club, 6600 N. Antioch Rd, Gladstone, MO 64119 or St. Andrew's Catholic Church. An autopsy will be performed to honor Ruth's last request, that the doctors learn from her year long illness." The Kansas City Star, November 22, 2013
