Albert Jay Cassity, (known as JayBird), age 90, of West Portsmouth, Ohio, passed away Saturday, December 26, 2020, at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth.
Born April 30, 1930, in Elliott County, he was the son of the late David Lee Cassity and Bessie Etty Moore Cassity. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Luster Cassity and Linsel Dale Cassity; and two sons-in-law, Danny Cox and James May.
Jay is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bulah Harris Cassity, whom he married December 19, 1962; eight children: Kathy Cox of West Liberty, Michael J. Cassity of Waverly, Ohio, Charlotte Cassity of Portsmouth, Ohio, Timmy Joe Cassity of Olive Hill, Helen Puckett and husband Darrell of Olive Hill, Connie Frances Cassity of Portsmouth, Ohio, Peggy Sue Taylor of West Liberty, Earl David Cassity of Portsmouth, Ohio, and an honorary daughter, Patty Starostka of Morehead; 15 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren.
Other survivors include two sisters: Mary Lee Cassity and Betty Lou Burns, both of Portsmouth, Ohio, as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Jay was a former truck driver for Ken-Mor Stone in Morehead. He enjoyed the Cincinnati Reds and U.K. basketball, all kinds of Western movies, and Alaska Frontier, his favorite TV show. He was a member of the Temple Faith Church in West Portsmouth, Ohio. Jay loved his family and spending time with them. He will be greatly missed.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals with Brother Dale Ison officiating. Burial will follow in the Cassity Cemetery, May Hollow Road, Morehead, KY 40351.
Pallbearers will be Michael, Timmy, and Earl Cassity, James Allen May, Jonathan Cox, Bobby Caskey, Jeff Quisenberry, Shane Swords, Ronnie Cox.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
