Irma was born in Jemison, Alabama to Lovis and Marie Thomas in 1932. She attended McAdory High School and married her high school sweetheart, Dewey L. Roy in 1950, and together they raised two children, Kenny and Susie.
Irma was a housewife raising two children, but was very involved in her community. She was actively involved in the Greenwood Civitan Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, and Jefferson County Historical Society.
Irma enjoyed genealogy research, collaborating with other researchers in the area to trace the many branches of her family tree. She also enjoyed and won many awards for her beautiful floral arrangements over the years.
Attending UAB after turning 50 years old, Irma graduated with honors completing her Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and passed the CPA exam. She became partner in a CPA firm until she retired.
She was a member of Canaan Baptist Church in Bessemer, Alabama. Irma is preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Roy, parents, and a sister, Frances Simpson. She is survived by her children Kenneth (Jonita) Roy and Susie (Gary) Waters, grandchildren Nicki, Bill, Andrea, Cyndi, Ginny (Joey), Christen, Melissa and Amber (John) and great grand children Cayden, Cooper, David, Jackson, Troup and Addison.
Funeral services for Irma Jean Roy will be at Bessemer Brown Service Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at 2pm with burial immediately following at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Bessemer, Alabama. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
