Sarah Louisa Jane Biggs was born in Pickaway County, Ohio, daughter of Robert and Nancy A White Biggs: (parental informant on death certificate is incorrect and incomplete).

Sarah Biggs was married to Benjamin Franklin Yoakum on Jan 11, 1866, in Pickaway County, Ohio; he was the son of John Yoakum and Frances Randall, residents of Pickaway County, Ohio and natives of Hardy County, WV. Sarah and her husband, Benjamin, separated in 1890 and she lived as a widow the rest of her life.

They were the parents of four children; two sons and two daughters, one daughter, Fannie, died at a young age.

Woman 50 Years at Inglewood Dies

Mrs. Sarah Yoakum, 90, will be buried today at Inglewood, April 20. With the death of Mrs. Sarah L. Yoakum, 90, there passed a pioneer of 50 years residence here. She was born in Ohio in 1849. Her husband joined the Union Army for the Civil War and left her with three small children, two boys and a girl, to support. The widow and her family came to Inglewood in 1890, and she and her daughter worked for the Daniel Freeman family, whose head was the founder of Inglewood. The daughter, Nellie Yoakum, married a young man from Indiana, the late W. S. "Billy" Magee. Magee subsequently became one of Inglewood's largest owners of business property here. Records show she was one of the first depositors in The First National, now the Security First National Bank of Los Angeles. Final rites will be conducted at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Beaver Mortuary, with burial in Inglewood Park Cemetery.
