Services for Ronald Massey, 71, of Athens, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 6, 2021 at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home with Pastor Kris Minefee officiating. Interment will follow at Red Hill Cemetery in Murchison under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.

Mr. Massey passed away December 3, 2021 in Tyler.

Ronald Gene Massey was born May 26, 1950 in Corsicana, the son of Robert Benjamin Massey and Louise (Garlington) Massey. He graduated from Eustace High School in the late 60's and worked for Curtis Mathes in Athens from 1970 until 1988. Ronald then went on to work for the City of Athens Street Department where he retired in 2012. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Athens and enjoyed fishing, working in his shop and spending time with his family. Ronald was a simple man who would do anything for anyone. He especially enjoyed picking on people- to try and get a rise out of them, but in the most loving way. Ronald was loyal, dependable and genuinely loved life. His remarkable legacy as a husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle will be remembered by all those that knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Bobby Massey and Jerry Massey.

Survivors include wife of 50 years, Clara Massey of Athens; children, Michael Massey and wife Tonya of Brownsboro, Mary Casey and husband Joe Don of Gilmer; siblings, Bill Sherrard and wife Kathey of Corsicana, Betty Templin and husband Doug of Athens, Terry Massey and wife Diane of Athens; grandchildren, Stormy Wilbanks and husband Eric, Rowdy Massey and fiancé Kayla Williams, Kailey Boyd and husband Jake, Summer Sheridan and husband Aray, Nichole Casey, Kylie Casey; great grandchildren, Rylie Whitehead, Kason Whitehead, Claire Wilbanks, Keylee Richardson, Hallee Richardson, Jacoby Boyd and Jaxson Sheridan as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be Zach Arden, Jesse Kyle, Michael Snell, Richard Miller, Jake Boyd, Aray Sheridan, Eric Wilbanks and Chris Massey.

A visitation will be held Monday, December 6, 2021 from 1-2:00 p.m. at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, Texas 75284.
