She graduated from Cobra High School in Carlsbad, AZ. In '64 or '65, she attended classes at the University of New Mexico in Las Cruces on a full-ride scholarship for piano accompaniment. There she met and married her first husband, Charles Lewis Crow and they had one daughter, Paula Marie. They divorced later, and then Mary Ann met and married her second husband, George W. Fellows in 1967.
The newlyweds moved shortly thereafter to New York City, where Mary Ann worked for the Carl Fisher publishing company, and later for the Julliard School of Music. In 1970, Mary Ann, George and Paula relocated to Springfield, MO. In 1971, son, Robert Andrew was born. During her years in Springfield, Mary Ann took courses at Southwest Missouri State University, there she sang soprano with the University Choirs, and served as a guest vocalist and staff accompanist. She even auditioned once for the Metropolitan Opera Company.
In 1983, the family relocated to Santa Fe, NM. Mary Ann and George divorced in 1990.
Upon moving to Santa Fe, Mary Ann became a founding member of the Santa Fe Desert Chorale. Later she went to work for the Elderhostel/Road Scholar organization. She later became the Regional Director.
She served in this position for over 30 years. She met the love of her life, John J. Slattery online! When he relocated back to Santa Fe they were married on September 4, 2004.
Mary Ann was a superlative musician with perfect pitch. She did guest vocal performances frequently and played piano or organ for countless weddings and funerals. She played piano or organ for one church or another from the age of 12! Her latest positions were as organist at St. John's United Methodist Church, and later as pianist for Zia United Methodist Church, both in Santa Fe.
Above all things, Mary Ann loved her family, and animals of all kinds but especially her own pets, and music. She was generous to fault, and there were very few individuals who didn't love her dearly.
She is survived by her husband, John Joseph Slattery, of Santa Fe; her daughter, Paula Marie Fellows, of Clarksville, TN; son Robert Andrew Fellows, of Seattle WA; grandsons, James Pacheco (Tiffany) of Monte Vista, CO and Brian Pacheco of Espanola, NM; and three great-grandchildren, who were her greatest joy, Julian Paul, Destiny Marie, and Jerrious James, all of Monte Vista, CO
