His birth date is approximate based on census records. His middle name came from the delayed birth certificate of his son Benjamin Staggs. His death date is confirmed by a newspaper article and also by Oklahoma death records. There is a death certificate available for him but I haven't seen one personally. The newspaper article confirms that he died in the Oklahoma County Poor Farm which was located in Oklahoma City. He was brought back to Eakly for burial. His wife Sarah Staggs is buried in this cemetery with a marker. I would imagine he was buried near her grave but I'm not for sure if he has a marker or not. The James Staggs homestead was located two miles North of the modern Crows Roost Store and was considered the Swan Lake area. The Fort Cobb Lake didn't exist at the time.
