GALENA, Kan. — Jack R. Deardorff, 74, 1302 Main St., was pronounced dead on arrival at 2:40 p.m. Thursday at Freeman Hospital, Joplin, Mo., after suffering an apparent heart attack while shopping in Joplin.
Mr. Deardorff was born Aug. 12, 1908, in Joplin an had lived in Galena for 35 years. He retired from Vickers in 1970 and was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Aleutian Islands.
He was a member of First Christian Church, Galena.
He married Grace Walker on April 4, 1948, in Galena. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Richard N. Deardorff, Webb City, Mo.; three sisters, Betty Howard, Joplin, Velma Funk , state of California, and Mary Lou Clanton, Long View, Ark., and two grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Cemetery, west of Galena, with the Rev. Lee Williams officiating, under the direction of the Derfelt Funeral Home. The family will be at the home.
