Irene Szymanski

Irene A. Szymanski, 96, Pulaski, passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at Emerald Bay Retirement Community, Hobart. The daughter of Leo and Anna (Nitka) Ostrenga was born April 9, 1925, in Cicero, IL., and grew up in the Town of Eaton.

On September 24, 1946, she married John J. Szymanski at St. Cyril & Methodius Church in Eaton. Together, Irene and John farmed their entire life and then, when grandchildren came, they babysat. At an age when most people retired, she got her first job outside the home at the Assumption B.V.M. School cafeteria.

Irene enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, and canning. She crocheted so many things including numerous dolls and Green Bay Packers afghans and even Corine's wedding dress. Having her family all together was very important to her, as well as enjoying polka music and dancing. Irene never missed a birthday, which usually included her famous chocolate butter torte. Every now and then Irene enjoyed a shot of "Vermox," as some of you know!

Irene is survived by her five children: Corine (Louis) Blasczyk, Eugene (Val) Szymanski, Norine (Don) Heuser, David Szymanski (Tammy Swearingen) and Steven (Tracey) Szymanski; her 12 grandchildren: JJ Szymanski, Stazy Szymanski, Amy (Ben) Welnak, Darrel Heuser (Heather Erfurt), Michelle (Jody) Endvick, Denise (Cody) Sorenson, Lori (Kyle) Patoka, Alexandria Swearingen, Sophia Szymanski, Logan (Aly) Szymanski, Mariah Szymanski and Ashlyn Szymanski; and 13 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, John, and her parents, Leo and Anna, she was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Bodhi Welnak.

Friends are invited to gather with the family on FRIDAY, DECEMBER 3, AT MARNOCHA FUNERAL HOME, 186 E. Pulaski St., Pulaski from 9-11 AM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 AM FRIDAY AT ASSUMPTION B.V.M. CHURCH, 119 E. Pulaski St., Pulaski, with Fr. Brendan Wroblewski O.F.M. presiding and Fr. Carmen Scuderi, O.F.M. concelebrating. Interment will take place in Elm Grove Cemetery, Laney.

Irene's family would like to thank the following: all her neighbors who helped over the years, Dawn at A Kut Above for always making her feel so special, Lottie Jaworski, the sister she never had - what a great friendship!, Cecelia "Toots" O'Neill, her California cousin who always kept in touch and put a big smile on Mom's face everytime she called, Shawano County Meals on Wheels for helping her live at home longer than expected, the entire staff at Emerald Bay - she loved it there!, everyone at Heartland Hospice who will always be our angels on earth, and God for allowing Irene to live at home for 94 years.

We love you mom… "A bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck."
