Myrtle was born February 29, 1932 in Des Moines County, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Ruth (Van Nice) Atherton. She graduated from Sperry High School in 1950.
On October 12, 1952, she married Martin J. Hoeg in Mediapolis. Myrtle was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and was a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She belonged to the Wapello Study Club, Merry Makers Club and volunteered at the Wapello Food Pantry.
Survivors include her sons: Bill (Leanne) Hoeg of New Berlin, WI and Randy (Julie) Hoeg of Wapello; daughter-in-law, Tina Hoeg of Wapello; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 nephew; 5 nieces; and several cousins.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Martin; son, David; two brothers; and two sisters.
