Funeral service for Sue Grace Wier will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 17, 1997, in McClure Chapel at First United Methodist Church. Dr. Wade Paschal will officiate. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Craddock Funeral Home.
Sue Grace Wier was born Jan. 16, 1901, at Delia, Texas. She is the last of 11 children born to Joe L. and Alice Giles Stone. She departed this life on April 15, 1997, in the local hospital.
She married Robert Reid Wier at Corsicana, Texas, in 1928. They moved to Ardmore 50 years ago from McAlester. He preceded her in death on May 16, 1963.
She attended teachers college in Texas, attended the University of Colorado and was a graduate of the Palmer Institute of Chicago. She taught school at various schools in Texas before moving here. She was a published poet, having poetry published in a number of magazines and books. Many pieces of her poetry were read on radio by Don McNeil on The Breakfast Club. She was also an avid bridge and rummy card player. She was a past member of the YWCA and various Y clubs. For 50 years she was an active member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three nieces Anna Mary Atchley, Chattanooga, Tenn., Winkie Stroube, Dallas, and Bette Wells, Dallas; her especially beloved friends, Judy Edmonds and Sheila Altom, Ardmore; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joseph P. and Mickey Wier, Fort Worth, Texas.
