Betty Jane Lawrence, of Hanover, passed away on November 26, 2021 at the age of 99 at Homewood at Plum Creek, where she resided the last 6 years. She was the daughter of the late Roger and Nina [Overbaugh] Sterner. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, James H. Lawrence, in 2004.
She is survived by her children Pat McVey (wife of the late Tom McVey) of Hanover, Mike Lawrence (Pat) of McSherrystown, Linda Penley (Randy) of Hanover, Sandy Lookenbill (Wayne) of Hanover, Jim Lawrence (Becky) of McSherrystown and Elaine Beard (Bobby) of Hanover. She has five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Clyde Sterner and her sister, Carlyn Trone.
Betty worked for over 30 years at JCPenney in the catalog department. She was also a member of the mall walkers and enjoyed going to the casinos.
Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation in celebration of Betty Jane's life on Friday, December 3, 2021 beginning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 220 3rd Street, Hanover, followed by her Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Michael P. Reid as celebrant. Interment will be at Annunciation B.V.M. cemetery, McSherrystown.
