Find A Grave contributor Carol Page Tilson provided the following obituary:

"Clayton County Register" [Elkader, Clayton Co., IA], 25 Oct 1934:

MRS. STROTHER HANSEL

Sophronia Wolf Hansel, daughter of Joseph and Lorane Wolf, was born Nov. 17, 1847, at Cascade, in Dubuque County, Iowa, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. Gull on Thursday, Oct. 18, 1934. She had reached the age of 86 years, 11 months and one day.

With her parents she came to Clayton County when six years of age and here she resided ever since. July 4, 1886 she was united in marriage to Strother Hansel and to this union seven children were born, one son, John Joseph, dying in infancy.

Those surviving are: David, Mrs. Mary Smith, Mrs. Edith Harbaugh and Mrs. John Gull of Garber; Mrs. Nevada Bowman of Toledo, Iowa, and Otto of Edgewood; 32 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Including her two daughters-in-law and four sons-in-law, she leaves to mourn her departure a total of 102 members in her own family besides many other relatives and friends.

Many years ago, when traveling was difficult she, with her husband, went to Waterloo where they both joined the Brethren church and to this faith they both clung faithfully until death.
