Daughter of Arthur and Muriel O'Neill, younger sister to Ronnie O'Neill. Sister-in-law to Dorothy. Aunt to Peter O'Neill (born 1964), Dorothy's only child. Val worked at the Holiday Inn in Durban until 1975. She was also the front office manager at the newly opened Breaker's Resort in 1983, in Umhlanga Rocks, La Lucia, Durban. Val married in 1974, to Gordon F. Benson, an American Piping Engineer from Houston, Texas, U.S.A., and also raised his two children, Cheri (9) and Troy (8). She also worked various hotel management positions when they moved back to the United States, after living in the Middle East, with a summer home in Downderry, England. Val was also a fantastic mother and wife, the very best you'd ever wish for! Sadly, her career ended in 1988, after last working for the Residence Inn hotels in San Diego, California: After her daughter's Cheri's marriage to Michael Yensko, Gordon and Val returned to Texas, where her battle with breast cancer (which began in 1977), ensued, tragically ending her life when the cancer metastasized to her brain. Lovingly remembered by all, she was a very classy lady with beautiful charm, respect and always worked very hard!
