Professional Gymnast, Olympic Gold Medalist. He was born one of eight children as Alfred Bertran Engelsen in Bergen, Norway, to Edvard Larselius Engelsen nad his wife Johanne Marie Monsen Engelsen on January 16, 1893. He was a professional gymnast who was a member of the club IL Norrøna (or Idrettslaget Norrøna), of Bergen, Norway. He would eventually go onto represent his home country of Norway at the 1912 Summer Olympics that were held in Stockholm, Sweden. Together with his team members including Isak Abrahamsen, Hans Beyer, Bjarne Johnsen, Hartman Bjørnson, Sigurd Jørgensen, Knud Knudsen, Alf Lie, Rolf Lie, Tor Lund, Petter Martinsen, Per Mathisen, Jacob Opdahl, Nils Opdahl, Bjarne Pettersen, Frithjof Sælen, Øistein Schirmer, Georg Selenius, Sigvard Sivertsen, Robert Sjursen, Einar Strøm, Gabriel Thorstensen, Thomas Thorstensen, and Nils Voss, he was part of the Norwegian men's gymnastics team which won an Olympic Gold Medal in the Team All-Around Competition Artistic Gymnastics Free System Men's Event. His final team standing score result was ranking 1 with 114.25 (22.85 TP) points. He also competed in the Plain High Diving Aquatics Men's Event in the Round One Pool Two Phase but was eliminated in the first round with a ranking of 7 p2 r1/2 and 28.3 points. He continued to represent club IL Norrøna (or Idrettslaget Norrøna), of Bergen, Norway, and be active in sports events until his death. He was married to Orlaug Hofstad Engelsen (1893-1985). He passed away in Tvedestrand, Norway, on September 13, 1966, at the age of 86, and he was buried in Dypvåg Kirke Cemetery in Dypvag, Norway, where several other famous Norwegian personalities are also laid to rest
