It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Doris Merrell of Wynne, Arkansas, born in Colt, Arkansas, who passed away on January 21, 2021, at the age of 79, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by : her parents, Ed Watson and Ola Watson (McGee); her husband John Merrell, Sr.; her siblings, William, Ben Watson, Lois Taegtmeyer and Edna Leonard; and her grandchildren, Cody Wood and Janie Merrell.

She is survived by her children with Melvin Hunt, son Wade Hunt of Wynne, daughters Lisa Merrell of Wynne and Karla Wood of Wynne; and her brother Edward Watson (Bea) of Wynne. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three step-children; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Doris Virginia (Watson) Merrell, resident of Wynne, Arkansas, departed this life on Thursday, January 21, 2021, at CrossRidge Community Hospital in Wynne at the age of 79. Doris was born in Colt, Arkansas on July 26, 1941, the daughter of Ed and Ola (McGee) Watson.

Doris lived her life in two segments in a way. The first segment was with her husband and the father of her three children, Melvin Hunt. She was a farmer, homemaker, and precious mother to her children. She was first on the scene when the original Wynne Walmart was constructed and assisted in setting it up. She also worked many years at Addison Shoe Factory. Melvin passed away in 1986, and changed her and her children's lives forever. The second segment began several years later when Doris married John Merrell, Sr. Throughout her life with John, she enjoyed singing and traveling often, but mostly in this time, she and John enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Doris loved her family very much.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; two brothers, William and Ben Watson; two sisters, Lois Taegtmeyer and Edna Leonard; and two grandchildren, Cody Wood and Janie Merrell.

She is survived by a son, Wade Hunt of Wynne; two daughters, Lisa Merrell and Karla Wood, both of Wynne; a brother, Edward Watson and wife, Bea, of Wynne; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three step-children; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 1, 2021, in the Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in Wynne with Bro. Mark Osgatharp officiating. Interment will follow in Halk Cemetery near Wynne. For those unable to attend, services will be livestreamed via the Thompson-Wilson Funeral Homes Facebook Page.

Friends may visit at the funeral home from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 31, 2021.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Jack Harlson, Lucas Hunt, Timothy Hutson, Logan Jarrett, Travis Merrell, and Heth Wood. Honorary pallbearer is David Hill, Sr.
