Joyce L. Barden, 83, of Salem, N.H., passed away on May 22, 2017, at the Blaire House in Tewksbury, Mass.
She was born at Lawrence General Hospital on November 1, 1933, to Alice G. (Gillespie) and Conley W. Barden and raised in Methuen, where she attended Searles High School. Joyce served 16 years in the U.S. Marine Corps. She was a lifelong member of Forest Street Union Church, Methuen, where she was a trustee and taught Sunday school. Joyce also served on the diaconate and several other committees. Before retirement, she worked as a home health aide for VNA.
Joyce is survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister, Arlene R. Catanzano and her brother, Leslie O. Barden.
Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the chapel at the Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the Forest Street Church, 15 Forest St., Methuen. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen. Memorial contributions made be made in Joyce's name to Forest Street Union Church or the Women's Marines Association Scholarship Fund, c/o 15 Oakcrest Rd., South Weymouth, MA 02190.
