Resa Gensweider Shipman passed away peacefully at home in Mansfield, TX on Dec. 11, 2018.

Resa was born Sept. 3, 1948 in San Antonio, TX. She graduated from W.B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi, TX. She earned a bachelor degree and teaching certificate at UTA where she met her husband, David. They were married Dec. 19, 1970 in Arlington. She taught in Arlington ISD for 14 years. She earned a Masters Degree at TCU while she was teaching. She later started her own business teaching customized Spanish classes for police officers, fire departments, municipal employees, medical personnel, etc. She also taught Spanish at the Police Academy on the TCCD campus. Resa volunteered all of her adult life. While still attending college, she volunteered at sports car club events where she made life-long friendships. Resa's other volunteer activities included Girl Scout leader; Big Sister and speaker for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tarrant County; speaker and office worker for Safe Haven (women's shelter); instructor in TCCD senior education and College for kids programs; worker and secretary in St. Vincent de Paul food pantry at St. Jude Catholic Church in Mansfield. She was also a money counter, Bingo and funeral lunch worker and reader at St. Jude. She was a member and officer in the Catholic Women's Organization. She helped organize TCU's Silver Frogs senior education program and served 1 year as its president and taught several courses. Initially she was not enthusiastic about getting a dog but soon learned to love their companionship and vowed never to be without one again. Her Golden Retriever was a source of comfort as she battled cancer. He was near when she died.

She was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Lois Gensweider and youngest brother James.
