Charles S. Gelso, of West Pittston, passed away, Friday evening, December 14, 2007, at Hospice Community Care, Inpatient Unit, Wilkes-Barre.

Prior to moving to West Pittston three years ago, he was a resident of Shavertown.

He was a son of the late Charles and Rosalia Giordano Gelso.

Charles was a graduate of Wyoming Seminary High School.

He attended Georgetown University and was a graduate of the University of Scranton.

Charles and his brothers built and operated Avenue Lanes Bowling Alley, Exeter, for 14 years.

Prior to retirement in January 2007, he was the owner/operator of Brocca Garages.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and bowling.

Charles was a member of the Wyoming Valley Bowling Hall of Fame.

He was a member of White Ash Land Association, Dushore, Pa., and a lifetime member of the San Cataldo Society.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Patrick; brothers, Philip, of Exeter, and Ross, of Kingston; sisters, Grace Scarantino, of Wyoming, and Mary Policare, of Toms River, N.J.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dorothy (DeLuca) Gelso; son, Charles and his wife, Kathleen, of Dallas; daughters, Rosalie and her husband, Hank Shemmer, of Piermont, N.Y., and Dorothy and her husband, Steve Loud, of Lafayette, N.Y.; grandchildren, Nikki, Charles and Patrick Gelso; brother, Sam and his wife, Theresa, of Pittston; sisters, Gertrude and her husband, Leo Latona, Josephine and her husband, Harry Giacometti, of Pittston Township; numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18 in Immaculate Conception Church, Luzerne Avenue, West Pittston.

Friends and family are asked to go directly to the church on Tuesday.

Interment will be in Denison Cemetery.

Friends may call on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, 802 Susquehanna Ave., West Pittston.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Community Care, 601 Wyoming Ave., Kingston, PA 18704.
