PORT ALLEGANY - Darrel F. VanSickles, 80, of Pearl St., passed away Friday, (Nov. 19, 2021), in UPMC Cole, Coudersport.
Born July 5, 1941, in Roulette, he was a son of Benjamin Harry and Irene Kester VanSickles. Darrel was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of the Port Allegany High School, class of 1959.
On Oct. 20, 1963, in Roulette, he married Donna M. Sherwood, who died Nov. 8, 2021. They were married 58 years.
He was employed with the former Pittsburgh Corning Co., Port Allegany, for 39 years, retiring in 1998.
Darrel was a member of the First Baptist Church, Port Allegany, life member of both the Port Allegany and Roulette Fire Departments, where he was active with the Fire Police. He was also a member of the Tri-County Fireman's Association. He enjoyed the outdoors, woodworking, antique automobiles, but most of all, sitting on his porch with his beloved wife, Donna.
Surviving are four sons, Darrel F. VanSickles of Columbus, Ohio, Michael P. (Malinda) VanSickles of Groveport, Ohio, Todd L. VanSickles of Lewis Run, Timothy A. (Rea Thomas) VanSickles of Cortland, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie (Jesse) Hooftallen of Emporium; and a sister, Jennie Marvin of Portville, N.Y.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Donna, two brothers, Albert VanSickles and Benjamin VanSickles Jr.; and two sisters, Katherine Green and Elaine Shavalier.
Due to the current uptick in pandemic circumstances, the family will hold a private viewing and funeral service in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, with Rev. Michael Culver, officiating. Burial will be at Card Creek Cemetery, Roulette.
A luncheon for family and friends will be held at the Roulette Fire Dept. following the burial, for both Darrel and Donna.
Memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church or the Port Allegany Fire Dept.
