After surviving Alzheimer's for many years, Richard's body grew tired, and he rejoined his wife, parents, and other loved ones. He dedicated his to life to serving his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege to know him. Upon graduating from South High (SLC) in 1965, Richard completed a two-year mission in Ireland where he fell in love with the culture, music, and people he served.
Richard married Sue Jean O'Bray in the Salt Lake Temple on November 07, 1969. His enlistment in the Air Force provided an opportunity to live in Alaska, Arizona, and Texas. Richard had the opportunity to travel broadly before retiring from U.S.A.F. Federal Civilian Service at Hill Air Force Base in 2008.
Richard had a great love for fishing, hunting, camping, and otherwise spending time outdoors in nature, ideally with his family. His favorite gift to give his grandchildren was their first fishing pole and tackle box. Richard loved family reunions, and was often at the center of practical jokes, water fights, and other shenanigans. Richard was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints and served in a variety of leadership positions, although his favorite was Scout Master.
He is survived by daughters Shannon (Mark) Dewsnup and Kellie (Kevin) Bingham; sons Craig (Melissa), Luke (Laura), and Blake (Racheal); 13 grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brother Gary.
