Memorial visitation for Maurice A. Behrends, 90, of Kankakee, will be from 1 p.m. Wednesday until the 2 p.m. memorial service at the Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Funeral Home, west Kankakee. The Rev. Patty Heath will officiate.

Cremation rites have been accorded by the Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Crematory. Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens of Memory.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley or to the donor's choice. He died Friday (Jan. 14, 2011) at Provena Our Lady of Victory in Bourbonnais.

Mr. Behrends worked at Armstrong World Industries for 33 years as a lab technician, retiring in 1983.

He was born March 31, 1920, in Clifton, the son of Henry and Minnie Weimer Behrends.

He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force from 1941-1946, serving in the South Pacific and the Philippines.

Surviving are his wife, the former Alicia Jensen, of Kankakee, whom he married May 16, 1955, in Corinth, Miss.; one sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Donald Wauthier, of Clifton; and one brother and two sisters-in-law, Paul and Dorothy Behrends, and Eleanor Behrends, all of Kankakee.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Russell Behrends; and one sister, Mildred Behrends.
