She was born May 6, 1938 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma to the late Henry Akins and Cuba Akins Pierce.
Mamma faithfully attended the Joshua Baptist Church for many years, and for a time was an assistant cook at the Joshua Christian Academy. Her many jobs included the Rubbermaid Factory in Cleburne, waitressing at Clark's Outpost in Tioga, seamstress at the Russell Newman factory in Pilot Point, and housekeeper at the Collinsville Nursing Home. But the job she took most seriously was Mother. Raising her five children was where she found the greatest joys in her life. Mamma had a giving spirit as demonstrated in the many organizations she volunteered for: Tioga PTA, Tioga Jaycees, 4-H Advisor, FHA Organization, and as a Modern Woodman of America Club leader organizing many fun activities and trips for the youth, Sunday School Teacher and Burleson Hospice Thrift Center, to name a few. To many, Mamma was a confidante, shoulder to lean on giving advice and sharing tears. She will be greatly missed.
Betty was preceded in death by seven sisters, six brothers, a son-in-law, and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral service: 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Joshua Baptist Church, 3231 S.W. Wilshire Blvd., Joshua, Texas 76058. Visitation: Noon to 1:00 p.m., at the church, prior to the funeral service.
