Frances Elizabeth Brown Cowen, 92, of Cantonment, FL, passed away Thursday, November 18, 2021.

Frances was born in Mount Pleasant, FL on December 03, 1928 to Nancy Elizabeth Sunday Brown and Arthur Vernon Brown, Sr.

Frances graduated from Chattahoochee High School, then attended and graduated from Florida State University in 1951. She married her lifetime soulmate, Edward J Cowen, Sr (E.J.) on August 18, 1950. Upon graduation from FSU she drove to California to be with E.J. during his training for the Korean Conflict.

Frances taught high school Home Economics while in California. She and E.J. moved back to Florida where Frances continued to teach in Pensacola, Lake City, Mayo, Cross City and back to Pensacola. Frances taught Home Economics at J.M. Tate High School from 1971 until she retired in 1988.

Frances was active in community and church activities. She was a member of ADK Education Sorority, Home Economics Professional Organizations and with E.J. she was active with 4-H, Farm Bureau, Florida Cattlemen's Association and Pensacola Interstate Fair. Frances and E.J. were long time members of St. Mark United Methodist Church where they were active in Sunday School, Supper Clubs as well as leadership within the church.

Frances loved her family, friends and neighbors and enjoyed spending time with them and having them as guests in her home. She was a phenomenal cook and hostess. She was an exceptional wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and great grandmother. She was a true lady.

Frances is preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years, E.J. Cowen, great-granddaughter, Lily James Cowen as well as her parents.

Frances is survived by her brother, A. V Brown, Jr. "Buddy" (Margo); son, Edward James "Jim" (Linda Faye) Cowen, Jr; daughter, Linda Cowen (Bruce) Ralph; grandchildren, Edward James "Jake" (Jessen) Cowen III, Jamie (Christina) Ralph, Jack Howard (Carrie) Cowen, Sr , Jaclyn (Mark Larribas) Ralph; great grandchildren, Jack Howard "Jack" Cowen, Jr,, Mary Charles "Charlie" Cowen, and Edward James (Four) Cowen IV ; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Frances' family want to thank the caring staff at The Life Care Center of Pensacola, especially, Stephanie, Tamara and all the nurses and CNAs who assisted in her care. Their professionalism, expertise, caring and support were impressive and so appreciated.

Services are planned for Saturday, November 27, 2021, at Pensacola Memorial Gardens. Visitation from 10:00-11:00 AM with chapel service at 11:00 AM
