CUNNINGHAM, J. L.
Died in Falfurrias, Tex, September 16, J. L. Cunningham, son of the late Judge J. A. Cunningham. He was born in Shelby County, Tex, April 16, 1827, and moved to Victoria County when a small child with his parents. He was married to Miss Annie R. Hall, daughter of the late A. F. Hall, about the year 1853, she having died in Victoria in 1870. He removed to Goliad, Tex, in 1873, where he was married to a Miss Wigginton, who survives him. He was taken to Falfurrias in August for the benefit of his health. He enlisted in the First Texas Cavalry, Buschell's Regiment, in 1861, and served throughout the war, principally as a scout; was wounded three times, and was discharged from service at the close of war in 1865. He was one of quite a large family, six boys and four girls, namely: James, H. S., O. W., A. P., L. F. and J. L. Cunningham; he being the last of the boys. There is also one sister deceased and three survive, Mrs. Minnie Bennett, Mrs. J. V. Vandenberge, Sr., and Mrs. Thos. Sterne, Sr., all of Victoria. He is also survived by three children, two girls and one boy, Mrs. Williams, of Tupelo, Miss., Mrs. Sonneman, of Calhoun County, Tex., and J. E. Cunningham of Victoria.
