Peacefully, at the Notre-Dame Hospital, on Friday, September 2, 2011, Mr. Pierre Fouasse of Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes, Manitoba passed away at the age of 81 years.

Pierre leaves, to mourn his passing, two sons, 7 grandchildren, as well as two great grandchildren. He also leaves to mourn one sister, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Pierre was predeceased by his wife Alice (née Robitaille) and three children, Ange, Antoine and Raymond in 1966. He was also predeceased by his two brothers, Martial and Robert, and one sister Beatrice Chanel.

Pierre's life story ended where it all began, in Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes. He grew up on the family farm and developed a passion for farming, one that would forever be with him.

In 1954, he married the love of his life, Alice (née Robitaille) and together they had 5 children. Sadly, in 1966, a tragic house fire claimed the lives of his beloved wife and three of his children. The wounds inflicted on him that day weighed heavily on his heart and remained with him for the rest of his life. Remarkably, his strong faith and his longing to see them again in the afterlife lead Pierre to a very peaceful passing.

Throughout the years, Pierre could easily have turned to any destructive vices but instead, he chose to work hard on the farm and raise his two boys, Gilles and Denis, as best as he could with the help of numerous family members. He rejoiced in seeing them both marry and build their own families.

Away from the farm, Pépère took joy in hunting, the outdoors and watching a good hockey or football game. He was a person that was organized and thought things through before speaking. In the last years of his life, he enjoyed simple things: a good meal, a game of cards, a challenging game of pool, a drive in his truck to check the crops, a long walk or a good cup of coffee.

What brought happiness and a genuine smile to Pépère's face, even in his last days of life, was seeing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He appreciated every visit and holiday celebrated. Despite the adversities he faced, Pépère considered himself lucky in having lived a long life.

Funeral Services were held in the Notre-Dame Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at 2 p.m. Recitation of the Rosary at 1:30, Funeral Mass at 2 p.m. followed by Interment in the Parish Cemetery with Father Leon Mubikayi officiating.
