Mrs. Mary Mathews

Mary MATHEWS, daughter of Samuel and Ellen SWISHER, was born in Leavenworth county near White Church, October 19, 1857. She was 85 years , 10 months and 13 days old when she died, August 31, 1943. May 31, 1875, she was married to Jonathan Mathews at Lawrence. To this union 13 children were born, seven grew to man and womanhood, six died in infancy. A son Albert Mathews met his death in 1903. He and friend Fred BABER were crossing the Kaw river when their boat upset and both were drowned. A daughter, Mrs. Rosie DULEN, died in 1935. Her husband died in 1938, since the death of her husband she has made her home with a daughter, Mrs. Lyida OLSEN in Kansas City, Missouri. The last few years she has lived with daughter, Mrs. Minnie WOODRUFF, of Humansville, Mo. Three other daughters, Mrs. Clara ABBOTT of Fall Leaf, Kan., Mrs. Stella DAVIS, of Topeka, Kan., Mrs. Nora SMITH, of Chambers, Ariz. one brother, Jack SWISHER, 80years of age. Also 11 grandchilden, 10 great-grandchildren and twogreat-great-grandchildren survive. She was a member of the Methodist church of Bonner Springs.

Mrs. Mary MATHEWS, aged 86 years, a former resident of Lawrence and Fall Leaf, died yesterday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Minnie WOODRUFF, Humansville, Mo. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock form Funk's Funeral chapel and burial will be made in Delaware cemetery. She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Clara ABBOTT, Fall Leaf; Ms. Stella DAVIS, Topeka; Mrs. Lydia OLSON, Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Nora SMITH, Chambers, Ariz., and Mrs. WOODRUFF.

Clarence Albert Mathews Jun 1875-30 May 1903. Clarence drowned in the Kansas River.

Her uncle Charles R Zeigler's first wife Julia Hudson Zeigler's second husband, George J Mathews, was her husband Jonathan's brother.
