Lyndal Hagood Atherton, 86, of Richmond, Va. passed peacefully after a long battle with heart failure on November 12, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Robert Atherton, Sr. She is survived by her sons, Robert Atherton, Jr. (Regina) and Randy Atherton, Sr. (Daphne); grandchildren, Amanda Atherton, Robbie Atherton (Chelsea), Susan Murphey (Chris), Sarah Shiver (Cheyenne), Thomy Anderson, Randy Atherton, Jr. and Pam Carson (Wally); ten great-grandchildren; and sisters, Patricia H. Miller (Robert) and Peggy H. Wheless (Lee). Lyndal was born in Chesterfield County, Va. to Gideon Johnson Hagood and Bessie Sangster Hagood, she was the tenth of their thirteen children. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One of her favorite things to do was take trips with her sisters to the mountains and see the fall foliage. A Celebration of Life will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, November 20, 2021 at Bliley's-Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Rd. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
