Funeral services for Alta Raye Caffey, age 96 of Rockdale will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 14, 2021 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Kevin Caffey and Pastor Matt Higginbotham officiating. Interment will follow in the Salty Cemetery. Visitation is 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Saturday, November 13, 2021 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Caffey was born December 20, 1924 in the Salty Community to Luther and Catherine (Story) Jackson. On July 3, 1941, she and Charles Cleo "Buck" Caffey were married in Pasadena, Texas. She worked several different jobs, starting out as a bookkeeper with Hancock Service Stations in Thorndale, Taylor and Rockdale, clerked at Butts Dry Goods in Thorndale, was a cook at Thorndale I.S.D. and then completed her career as the business manager with Caffey Construction. Mrs. Caffey has lived in Rockdale the past 27 years having moved from San Marcos. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Rockdale. She was an Astros baseball fan and enjoyed reading Christian love stories. Her favorite author was Karen Kingsbury. Mrs. Caffey loved being involved with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and holiday family gatherings. She was a collector of Nativity scenes; she has a collection of over 200.

Mrs. Caffey passed away Thursday morning, November 11, 2021 in the Legacy Nursing and Rehab in Cameron. She is preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Catherine Jackson; husband Buck Caffey on August 14, 2004; their son, Charles Ray Caffey on August 12, 2014; their daughter, Linda Biar on December 21, 2018; six brothers, Van, Conrad, Monora, Hubert, Floyd and Roy Jackson and a sister, Bernice Moore.

Surviving is son, Edward Caffey and wife Debbie of San Marcos; daughter, Debbie Leschber and husband Raymond of Rockdale; daughter-in-law, Neva Caffey of Bryan and son-in-law, Jerry Biar of Thorndale; 11 grandchildren, Derek Caffey and wife April, Kevin Caffey and wife Stacie, Rhonda Jordan and husband Craig, Tina Schaefer and husband Scotty, Mark Biar, Christie Gamble and husband Jeff, Diane Caffey, Courtney Burgoon and husband Seth, Wayne Leschber and wife Stacy, Matthew Leschber and wife Jenny, Clint Leschber and wife Nikki; 23 great grandchildren, Colton Caffey and wife Tiffany, Austin Caffey and wife Amanda, Brandi Caffey, Jackson, Slaton and Vivian Caffey, Tyler Jordan and wife Shelbee, Paxton Jordan and wife Shelby, Riley Schaefer, Ashton Schaefer, Skyler Konarsky and husband Dylan, Ryan Biar, Nathan Biar, Justin Knox, Luke Gamble, Jackson Wallace, Kennedy Burgoon, Luke, Landri, Stryker, Caden, Addison, Brynn Raye, Paige, and Wyatt Leschber; two great great grandchildren, Daylee Jordan and Jesse Konarsky.
