Published in the Piscataquis (ME) Observer 10 Nov 1881 p3: "ACCIDENT---Mr. Edward [sic] Demeritt, of this town [Dover] accidentally caught his arm in a threshing machine on Thursday morning while at work at Mr. Joshua Packard's, and it was so badly crushed and mangled that it had to be amputated just below the elbow, Drs. Thompson and Buck performing the operation. He was a brother of the late Dr. Demeritt, and the family have met with many sore afflictions within the past few years past, several of them having died of consumption, and only two now remain. The unfortunate young man has the sympathy of many friends in this section."

Maine Marriages, 1771-1907, Volume 3, p207 (online p661): "Dover, Dec. 27th 1882, I this day entered notice of the intention of marriage between Mr. Edwin M. Demeritt and Mrs. Lousia [sic] A. Demeritt both of Dover, cert. issued Jan. 1, 1883. Attest, Thomas P. Elliott, Town Clerk"; p209: "This certifies that I Edwin Hill joined in Mr. Edwin M. Demeritt of Dover and Mrs. Louisa A.
