Funeral services will be Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Ebenezer Church of The Nazarene for David E. Ashby, Sr., 96, who died Sunday, November 7, 2021, at 7 a.m. in Crowley.

Rev. Alton Ashby, Rev. Travis Bertrand, and Rev. Barry Stephens will officiate for the services. The family requests visiting Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. to service time with visitation at the Ebenezer Church of The Nazarene. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Mr. Ashby was born Nov. 19, 1924, in Pleasant Hill, LA to Rev. Adolphus and Mattie Bruce Ashby. He owned and operated Dave's Paint and Body Shop in Crowley until his retirement and drove a bus for the Acadia Parish School Board. He honorably served his country in World War II in the United States Marine Corps from April 16, 1943 to March 16, 1946 and was discharged with the rank of Sergeant.

Mr. Ashby is survived by three daughters, Sue Ashby Spell and her husband Ricky of Crowley, Evelyn Spaetgens of Lyons Point, and Frances Eversole of Florida; one son, Charles Lee Ashby, Sr and his wife Cynthia of Crowley; daughter-in-law, Cindy S. Ashby of Crowley; 18 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and 10 great great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Walterine Faulk Ashby and his second wife, Opal Benoit Ashby; his sons, David E. Ashby, Jr, Raymond Lambert, and Jerry Lambert; granddaughter, Michelle Lambert.

Pallbearers will be Chuck Ashby, Cody Ashby, Casey Ashby, Scott Ashby, Nick Bertrand, and Lance Broussard. Honorary pallbearers will be Alex Ashby, Andrew Ashby, Joey Benoit, Travis Bertrand, and Hayden Evans.
