J.W. Rosson who is 89, is a farmer who scoffs at age. Now at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bonita Hobby, in Center Cross community, he has grown a six-pound turnip along with a whole patch of little giants. Mrs. Hobby brought the turnip to the Spectator office Thursday and left it as a proof of his prowess.

From Granddaughter Narma Sue Rosson Lea: December 27, 2003
My grandpa was a good farmer. That's what killed him. He was 93 years old and was plowing his garden and got a stone bruise on his heel, it got infected and it went to his heart and killed him. Very painful but wouldn't part with his leg to save his life. Grandma was already gone and he didn't really care.

Jasper Wesley Rosson was called by his nephew, Sammie Campbell, as Uncle Jap. Jasper's mother was Lucinda Mayner Rosson Horner Kirkendoll. His step-father was William Marion Kirkendoll. Most of this family resided in the Sulphur Springs/Jethro Community. I live about 1 mile from where Jasper was born and raised. Jasper's niece, Emmer Lois Kirkendoll, along with my grandfather, have told me many stories about the family. I will be hosting the family reunion on Saturday, May 4, 2012 at the Jethro Community Building, next to Oak Ridge Cemetery.
