Edna J. Buchheit, 82, of Union, MO and longtime resident of New Haven, MO, passed away Friday, November 5th, at New Haven Care Center. Edna was born in St. Louis, MO on May 9, 1939, a daughter of the late Mary E. (Van Lear) and Eugene Sossaman. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Union, MO and a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church, New Haven, MO.

She was the wife of James Buchheit, Sr. They were united in marriage on March 18, 1978 at Trinity Lutheran, New Haven, MO.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Ulo Tall. They were married on January 15, 1959 at Lakeville, Arkansas and had 3 children.

Edna's family include her husband James Buchheit, Sr. of Union, daughter Linda Helfrich and husband, Tony Marquardt of Union, MO; son Thomas Tall and wife Faye of Beaufort, MO; daughter Joanne Tall (deceased) and husband Scott Kamen of Ossining, NY; step-son James Buchheit, Jr. and wife Donna, Hermann, MO; step-daughter, Peggy Obermark and husband Joseph Obermark III (deceased) of Washington, MO; step-daughter, Kathleen Narup and husband Ed, of Union, MO; step-son Frank Buchheit and wife Margaret, of New Haven, MO. Edna is also survived by a sister Ruth Ritter of Lee Summit, MO. Her grandchildren include Ryan Helfrich, Greg Tall, Erin Wildhaber, Todd Tall, Hannah Kamen, Abigail Kamen, Brittany Marquardt, Yvonne Buchheit, Jeff Buchheit, Jamie Buehrlen, Christie McNabb, Lynn Bell, Amanda Kohlbusch, Joseph Obermark, Natasha Skirvin, Cheyenne Narup, Devin Buchheit and Abigail Buchheit. In addition, she and James Sr. have 36 great- grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Ulo Tall, daughter, Joanne Tall, and brother, David Sossaman.

Edna was a private pilot in her teens and early twenties; she last flew when pregnant with daughter, Linda. She worked for Union Electric Co, St. Louis, MO until she became a mother in 1960. Her love of animals was demonstrated by running her private horse boarding business at home in St. Louis County and later at her home in Beaufort, MO. She was a stay-at-home mom to her children until they were young teens, when she became employed by Langenberg Hat Company, New Haven, MO.

She became a widow in 1976 when her children were 14, 15 and 16 years old. After marriage to James Buchheit Sr., the couple settled in New Haven, MO, which was James' hometown. While residing in New Haven, Edna was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, enjoying fellowship within the congregation and performing servantship activities. Edna and husband, James Sr., enjoyed residing within the New Haven community, making new friends and preserving the long-held friendships throughout 35+ years in the community. In recent years, Edna and James Sr. relocated to Union, MO and became members of St. Paul Lutheran.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 10th, 2021 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, New Haven, MO.

Funeral Services will be Thursday, November 11th at 11:00 a.m. from Trinity Lutheran Church, New Haven, MO, with Pastor Mathew Hayter officiating.
