CLYO-Benjamin Franklin Arnsdorff, 95, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2007, at home.
Mr. Arnsdorff was a ninth generation Salzburger. He was the son of the late Johnnie and Lillie Edwards Arnsdorff. He was predeceased by his sister, Anna Julia Arnsdorff Bragg and two brothers, Orrin and Bertie Arnsdorff.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Gladys Seckinger Arnsdorff; three sons, Oneil (Sandy) Arnsdorff, B.F. Arnsdorff and Wayne (Sylvia) Arnsdorff; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Mr. Arnsdorff was a farmer, a former county commissioner and state representative for Effingham County. He was chairman of the original Effingham Hospital Authority from 1968-1972 and had served as administrator of the hospital.
Mr. Arnsdorff was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and a former member of Turkey Branch United Methodist Church where he held several positions. He was a 70 year member of Clyo Lodge #280, F&AM masons.
He owned and operated a sawmill and was loved and respected by everyone who met him. He loved to tell stories and could entertain for hours. He will be greatly missed by his loving and dedicated family.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Ben Wages Chapel of Riggs Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Turkey Branch Methodist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be sent to Bethel Lutheran Church, Organ Fund, P.O. Box 1022, Springfield, GA 31329 or Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416.
