Joan was born to Mary Adams McElveen and John Henry McElveen on November 9, 1938. She was raised in Willow Springs, North Carolina and was a graduate of Cleveland High School in Johnston County. Joan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She held several jobs over her life, including twenty-five years with Hoechst Celanese and related companies. Her biggest love was taking care of her family. She was our rock, champion, and cheerleader. Joan had a close group of friends who affectionately call themselves the "Ya-Ya" sisters. They brought lots of joy, laughs, and memories to her life. Among Joan's interests were reading, crossword puzzles, and spending time at the beach.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband, William Hovie Huff, and sister, Shirley Tripodi. Left to cherish her memories are sons, Benny (Elaine) of Fort Mill, South Carolina and Billy of Belmont, North Carolina, grandchildren, Brandon (Stephanie) of Waco, Texas, Evan (Katey) of Norfolk, Virginia, Morgan of Pineville, North Carolina, and great-granddaughter, Haley.

The family would like to thank Gaston Hospice for their love and care over the past several months.

A celebration of Joan's life will take place at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 1, 2021 at Four Square Church, 8 Elizabeth Street in Belmont, North Carolina with Pastor Kevin Ford officiating.

Her ashes will be placed in the Rose Garden at Evergreen Cemetery, Belmont, NC.
