Donald Eugene Allred, 98, of Knott, passed away Friday, October 29, 2021 in Big Spring, Texas.

The family will receive friends from 5pm-7pm on Monday, November 1 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Tuesday, November 2 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.

Donald was born August 31, 1923 in Knott, Texas to Effie May Shortes and John Allred.

He married the love of his life, Hazel Harland in Big Spring in 1942.

He served in the United States Army Infantry during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star.

He returned to Howard County and Knott, Texas after the war to farm until his retirement.

He briefly worked in the oil filed during the 1950's after the drought came along.

He is survived by one daughter: Don Nell Herm and husband Eddy of Ackerly; three grandchildren: Michelle Zant and husband Scott of Ackerly, Deanna Thurman and husband Colby of Big Spring and Eric Herm of Ackerly; seven great grandchildren: Ethan and Preston Zant, Karlye and Dylan Weaver, Jacqueline Belew and Wyatt and Donovan Herm.

Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Allred, his parents, one son, Jerry Dwaine; two brothers: Cecial and Reedy.

He was a lifelong member of the Knott Church of Christ, where he served as an Elder and Bible School Teacher.
