Timothy Andrew Mathis, age 78 of Painesville Twp., passed away October 27, 2021 at his home. He was born September 27, 1943 in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania to the late Frank and Evelyn (Grove) Mathis. He was a lifelong area resident.

Mr. Mathis graduated from Willoughby South High School. He then served in the United States Air Force during Vietnam. After serving he then earned a degree in Criminal Justice from Lakeland Community College. He then worked for the Lake County Sheriff's Office for 21 years earning the rank of Detective. He was a member of F.O.P. Lodge 16 and was instrumental in acquiring the property and the construction of the current lodge. After retiring from the Sheriff's Office he and his family owned the Sideliner Diner in Painesville Twp. for 8 years and then the Hilltopper Bar & Grill in Chardon for another 8 years. He also was the cheerleading coach for many years at Riverside High School, Mercyhurst College and Chardon High School. While coaching at Chardon High School, his teams won several National Titles in Cheerleading.

He is survived by his wife Susi (Pettifer) Mathis whom he married June 20, 1970 in Willoughby; daughters Tami (Larry) Harpster of Painesville Twp., Missi (Jim) Altman of Chardon and Kimi (Dan) Cole of Chardon; his grandchildren Brittani (Nick), Courtani, Stephani, Kara, Kaitlin, T.J., Tori and Andrew. He also leaves his sister Donna (Martin) Zadorozny, brothers Terry (Barb) Mathis, Don (Karen) Mathis, Dennis Mathis, and sister-in-law Vicki Mathis. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Frank Mathis.

The family will receive friends Sunday, October 31 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home, 368 Mentor Avenue, Painesville. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 1 at Painesville United Methodist Church, 71 N. Park Place, Painesville with Rev. James Winkler and Rev. Gerald Kalb, retired will officiate the service. Burial will follow with Military Honors at Riverside Cemetery.
