Geneva R. Powers, age 93, of Ragley, Louisiana, passed away on Wednesday, October 27, 2021. She was born September 5, 1928, in Mire, LA, to Armand Richard and Dora Meche Richard. She married her husband Jack Powers and they had four sons. While raising her four boys, Geneva started college at McNeese University, where she graduated and became a school teacher. She taught at Westwood and Western Heights Elementary schools until her retirement.
Geneva was a member of Gateway Church of God and was very involved and carried on her ministry with the Meals on Wheels program, providing nutritious meals for the recipients of the program. She was an excellent cook, enjoyed fishing, and spending time with her family and friends. She was affectionately called The Blue Heron by her brother John Richard because she was seen many times fishing on her wharf in her blue Columbia shirt.
Geneva was an accomplished basket weaver, and graced many friends and relatives with her finished craft. One other favorite pastime was eating boiled crabs and crawfish with her family and friends Geneva is proceeded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 71 years Jack Augustus Powers; two grandsons, Jerod Powers and Greg Powers.
