The Rev. Robert B. Echols, rector of St. John's Episcopal Church here from 1942 until 1953, died Tuesday at his home in Olympia, Wash.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Echols, and three sons, Lawrence E., James R. and David C. Echols.
Mr. Echols, a native of Atlanta, had retired from the ministry.
He was educated at the University of California and the Divinity School of the Pacific at Berkeley, Calif.
Had Taught School
Before studying for the ministry he taught school in Virginia.
Mr. Echols came to Richmond from Boise, Idaho, where he was rector of St. Luke's Church. He left St. John's in 1953 to go to Tacoma, Wash., because of his wife's poor health. After he retired, he moved to Olympia.
Mr. Echols was a former president of the Richmond Ministerial Union and dean of the Richmond Convocation of the Diocese of Virginia.
