Mrs. Alvin C Brown died at home in Forest Grove Tuesday. Born July 16, 1832 in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, her maiden name being Sarah Ross.

While young, the family started for Iowa, and while in Illinois her father was hurt and died. The family went on to Iowa where her mother then married Isreal Mitchell and in 1847 he brought the family across the plains to Oregon. They settled first on the east side of the river where the father kept ferry. In 1849, they came to Forest Grove. She made her home with Mr. Maylor's family.

November 1, 1854 she married Brown, grandson of the founder of Pacific University. They had nine children, five are living: Mrs. Lewis, Russelville; Miss Liberta, at home; Dr. E M Brown, Tacoma; Ernest Brown, Hillsboro and Victor Brown on old farm. She also leaves two sisters: Mrs. Slaven of Washington County and Mrs. Caroline M Painter of Walla Walla; two brothers: E C Ross, Beaverton and L A Ross, Eugene.
