Jeannie's childhood was spent playing with her pets and riding her bicycle. She had many memories of playing at her parents' businesses (My Barber Shop and The Nylon Shop) in the landmark triangle building on Main Street in Crossville. She enjoyed traveling with her mother to Nashville and Knoxville for back-to-school shopping. Jeannie attended Crossville Grade School and graduated from Cumberland County High School in 1962. One of her favorite high school memories was a marching band trip to play in the Orange Bowl.
After high school, Jeannie moved to Nashville and went to business school. She worked in the field of insurance for several years at the Life and Casualty Tower on Church Street. After starting a family, she was a home-maker for several years. She enjoyed gardening, interior design, sewing and volunteering with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Later, she returned to work and retired from Ingram Book Company.
Jeannie was a member of the Church of Christ. Whenever she saw someone in need, she would do her best to help them. Her children have memories of her helping an elderly neighbor. In later years, she took food to a homeless woman that she had befriended.
Jeannie is survived by her daughters, Angela Harrison (Ben) of Marietta, GA, and Theresa Toungette of Nashville; and her beloved dog, Osito. Her family is thankful for the care she received the past year from her caregivers with Progress Inc. and from her doctors, especially Dr. Elizabeth Yakes.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Mary (Lowe) Carr, who passed away when Jeannie was very young; her father, Herman Carr; her stepmother, Lorene (Webb) Carr; and several step-siblings.
A graveside service will be held at the Crossville City Cemetery.
