Passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2004 in Borgess Nursing Home, Kalamazoo. Dorothy was born November 28, 1913 in Malden, IL, the daughter of B. Marshall and Clara Evelena (Johnson) Franks. Dorothy worked and retired out of Welches in Lawton. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lawton for 62 years. While there she was a Deaconess until the day of her death. She was also involved in Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF). Dorothy was 1st runner up for Miss Paw Paw, one sister was 2nd runner up and one sister was queen. She married Wilmer Elvin Pierce August 3, 1935 in the Presbyterian Parsonage in Paw Paw. He preceded her in death in 1974. She was also preceded in death by a son, Wilmer Marshall Pierce Sr. in 1983; grandson, Johnnie Mark Pierce; granddaughter, Michelle Leigh (Bledsoe) Tessman; 2 brothers, Virgis and Robert Franks; and 4 sisters, Virginia Mitchell, Lillian (Garlock) Little, Fern Clough and Ada Nash; and a daughter-in-law, Virginia Ann Pierce. Survivors include a son, Robert Earl (Eunice) Pierce; daughter, Janet Helen (Jerry) Tessman, both of Lawton; 5 grandchildren, Robert Wayne Pierce Jr. of Lawton, Wilmer Marshall and Julie Pierce of Paw Paw, Cindy Ann (Perry) Penning of Texas, and Tammy Lynn (Travis) Verberg of Lawton; 5 great-grandchildren, Tiffney, David and Jessica Penning, Timothy and Kirsten Pierce. Cremation has taken place. Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, November 16, at 1 p.m in the First Baptist Church, Lawton, with Rev. John Hill and Rev. Justin Van Antwerp officiating. Newell Funeral Home, Decatur, is assisting the family with the arrangements. The family suggests memorials be donated in Dorothy's memory to the American Heart Association in honor of Dr. LaPenna.
