Vessa Humphrey Smith 8/21/1919~11/2/2007 Vessa Humphrey Smith, A very special sister of our Heavenly Father, a very strong person with a very strong spirit passed away as a result of a heart attack November 2, 2007 in Hot Springs, Arkansas while living close to her daughter.Vessa was born to Hazel Draper Humphrey and Sidney Bailey Humphrey in Aurora, Utah August 21, 1919. The family moved to Provo, Utah while she was young. Vessa graduated Provo High School. After graduation she worked at the Provo Library where she met Gerald Richard Chase. He had a trucking company and had stopped by to see a friend. A blind date was in the makings. They soon married and moved to California where their three children were born. After 14 years of marriage, they divorced and she moved back to Provo Utah with the support of her family. She then worked in the BYU library for a while. She was later employed at O. C. Tanner for 10 years where she met and made many friends. She met a fellow named Thomas Birch Smith and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple and lived in Kamas until his death in 1989. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. A very faithful member and held the callings for the Relief Society. She was invited to work in the Provo Temple right before moving to Houston, Texas to be closer to her daughter. She lived there for five years, and then moved to Hot Springs, Arkansas with Rae where she lived until her death. She was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother, Sister and friend. Vessa is survived by her daughter Raelene (Wayne) Tondro, son Edwin Chase and her son in law Bruce (Luann) Clawson. She is also survived by Eleven Grandchildren that will miss her more than anything and Twenty one Great Grandchildren. She always said that family was everything to her. She is preceded in death by husband Tom Smith, Daughter Beth Jalene Clawson, Granddaughter Karen Clawson, Grandson Dave Perry, her parents, four brothers, three sisters. Blair Humphrey, Duane Humphrey, Val Rolan Humphrey, Amburs Bird Humphrey, Thaola Tucker, Virginia Packard and Laural Kaneal Ostler. Grandma will be missed so much, and was loved so much. Graveside services will be at the Provo City Cemetery Friday, November 16, 2007 at 11 am. All friends and family are welcome.
