BODY OF VETERAN TAKEN TO CAPITAL
The body of Major Robert H. F. Sewall, 83 year old Confederate Veteran and originator of a "spur dyke" plan for flood control was sent to Baton Rouge for burial Monday afternoon, after a military funeral held at the P. J. McMahon chapel and services at the St. Francis de Sales church at 1:45 p.m.
Major Sewall died Sunday at 5:30 p.m. in Charity hospital. He is survived by three sons, Robert H., James Nelson and P. H. Sewall and two daughters, Mrs. H. P. Simmonds and Mrs. C. P. Chester.
The last forty years of Major Sewalls' life were spent in promoting his dyke plan, which was declared impractical by engineers in 1924. He left his plantation in Iberville parish in 1887 in an effort to obtain recognition for his plan.
**His Confederate CW Pension application states he was born on Blythewood Plantation, Bayou Goula, Iberville Parish, Louisiana.
