Peter Lucas Salmon, long time Hopatcong NJ resident, 83, died peacefully at Bristol Glen, Newton NJ on Sunday, December 22, 2019.

He leaves his wife of 63 years, Gwendolyn (Morrissey) Salmon; daughters; Tamara Salmon-Mabus, Andrea (Salmon) Baldwin, Alison Salmon, and his son; Peter Lucas Salmon Jr; two grandchildren; Adeline Morrissey Heard and Eliza Mae Heard; brothers; Reverend Abraham Dickerson Salmon IV and Jerre Wayne Salmon. Born to Abraham Dickerson Salmon III and Audrey (Lucas) Salmon, both deceased, of Chatham NJ.

He graduated from Binghamton North High School, Binghamton, NY and attended Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, PA where he met his future wife. Peter spent most of his adult life in Hopatcong raising his family. Over the course of his lifetime he started various business ventures reflecting his love of tinkering and his desire to understand how machines worked.

Peter volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America in several capacities including Cub Scout pack master and Eagle Scout review board. He had a lifelong passion for King Midget automobiles and enjoyed showing off his classic car in local parades and at national rallies. Peter loved studying, making and listening to many music genres from classical to barbershop. He adored family gatherings, especially Christmas, birthday celebrations and family reunions. Peter enjoyed great food and wine and became an accomplished baker later in life. He took great pride and delight in cheering on his granddaughter's sporting events. Peter was active with the Salmon Family Association holding different offices over the years.

His generous spirit and sense of humor will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Interment is scheduled for February 1, 2020 at the Mt. Olive Union Cemetery, Flanders-Drakestown Rd., Flanders, NJ for immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to either the Mt. Olive Union Cemetery for perpetual cemetery care (c/o Jim Smith, 29 Kenmar Rd., Budd Lake, NJ 07828) or WQXR, NYC member supported classical music radio.
