Roger E. Hurt, age72, of Oquawka, Illinois passed away at 9:30 am on Sunday October 17, 2021 at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. Roger was born on November 5, 1948 in Galesburg, Illinois. He raised in Galesburg and Rock Island where he attended local schools and Rock Island High School. After his schooling Roger served his country in the United States Army as a Spec 5, serving from February 27, 1969 to September 29, 1970 during the Viet Nam Era. After his service Roger returned and married Mary Eva Spangler on December 21, 1970 in Oquawka, Illinois. She preceded him in death on November 4, 2001. Roger later married Ruth M. Tobias on July 6, 1991 also in Oquawka, and she survives him. Roger has worked and been employed at numerous jobs over his earlier years, More recently he has been employed at Wal-Mart Transportation from 1994 to 2018 at his retirement. He is a member of the Biggsville American Legion and....He is survived by his wife, Ruth Hurt of Oquawka, and three daughters, Sherry Bailey and Jay, Cheryl Newton and Tony, and Rebecca Simpson and Billy, all of Oquawka, Illinois. His son also survives, Shawn Hurt also of Oquawka, Illinois. There are six grandchildren and three great grandchildren also surviving. His sisters surviving are, Lori McCrary of Sherrard, Illinois and Joyce Romine of Monmouth. There are two brothers, Gale Hurt and Nina of Oquawka, Illinois and Michael Deppe in Coal Valley, Illinois. Numerous nieces and nephews are also surviving. His parents Ervin Hurt (father) Bessie Deppe (mother) proceeded him in death, a brother, David Deppe and Nephew, David Hurt.

A funeral service is planned at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois on Saturday October 23, 2021 at 10:30 am. His family would plan a visitation on Friday evening and would be at the funeral home to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Interment with Military Honors is planned at the Oquawka Cemetery following his funeral service.. A memorial fund is being established for .....
