Mrs. Lucy H. Smedley, died at the home of her son George D. Smedley, on November 21, 1884, at Olathe, Kansas, at the age of 56.
She was born at Lexington, Kentucky May 19, 1829, and moved with her parents to Petersburg, Illinois, in 1836. She was married to Joseph Marsh, on October 16, 1848, who died November 231, 1856. Two children were born George D. and Charles W. Marsh. Then in March 1858, she was married to Richard H. Smedley. Mr. Smedley was a soldier, and was captured with a young boy who was wounded. He carried the boy 9 days before reaching the union lines, when they did there was no one there to prevent him from eating, and he died of starvation at Memphis Tennessee, July 3, 1863.
